Problem
ImmoScout24, once Switzerland’s second most popular real estate platform, wasn’t meeting users’ needs. Prospective homebuyers were leaving before finding a home because confusing filters, insufficient location context, and the absence of essential tools like mortgage calculators left them overwhelmed.
Rather than guiding users to make informed decisions, the app was inadvertently pushing them away.
Solution
As Senior Product Designer at Scout24, I joined the Swiss design team with a clear mandate: help users find the right homes faster. I joined user research through surveys and interviews, uncovering the deeper questions users asked, such as “How far is this from work?” and “What schools are nearby?” These insights formed the foundation of our redesign strategy.
We reimagined the home search experience from the ground up. I designed Proximity Search, a feature that gives more insights and help decision-making by showing commute times to key destinations.
I streamlined the filter system to eliminate clutter, making the search intuitive and fast. Recognizing that decision-making extended beyond finding a listing, I led mortgage calculators and decision-support tools directly into the app. To help the team roll-out all new features, I our iOS and Android design systems to ensure a consistent and quality experience while deploying updates frequently.
Impact
By early 2020, these enhancements yielded impressive results.
ImmoScout24 reclaimed its position as Switzerland’s No.1 real estate platform on the App Store and Play Store. User retention rose from 60% to 78%, and engagement went up by 15%. Our optimized design systems reduced rollout times by 16%, contributing to a more agile development process.
