Problem
ImmoScout24, Switzerland’s second-most popular real estate platform, struggled to meet user expectations. Prospective homebuyers frequently abandoned their searches due to confusing filters, insufficient location context, and missing essential tools like mortgage calculators.
Instead of guiding users toward informed decisions, the app inadvertently overwhelmed them, pushing them away.
Solution
As Senior Product Designer at Scout24, I joined the Swiss design team with a clear mission: help users find the right homes faster. I participated in user research through surveys and interviews, uncovering critical questions users asked, such as “How far is this home from my workplace?” and “Are there good schools nearby?” These insights became the foundation of our redesign strategy.
We reimagined the home search experience from scratch. I designed the "Proximity Search" feature to provide valuable contextual insights, clearly showing commute times to important destinations to simplify decision-making. I streamlined the filter system, removing clutter to make searches intuitive and efficient. Recognizing that homebuying decisions went beyond finding listings, I integrated mortgage calculators and decision-support tools directly within the app.
To ensure seamless implementation of these new features, I enhanced our iOS and Android design systems, ensuring consistency, quality, and frequent updates.
Impact
By early 2020, these improvements delivered remarkable results.
ImmoScout24 claimed its position as Switzerland’s #1 real estate platform on both the App Store and Play Store. User retention increased from 60% to 78% while overall user engagement rose by 15%. Moreover, the design systems I owned reduced rollout times by 16%, contributing to a more efficient development process for Scout24 team.
