I joined Scout24 as the mobile experience for ImmoScout24 was slipping. The app was still dominant in market share, but it was losing usability. Users complained about the confusing search filters and fragmented access to other services. Most users gave up before getting close to the deal.
I came in as the senior product designer on mobile, caring for both iOS and Android. I was working with the design team in Switzerland as a solo designer in Vietnam.
With user interviews, tracking on GA and Hotjar, I and the team rewrote the search logic and UIs. We showed commute time to frequent places (work, gym, etc.) so the users could estimate how relocation affect their lives. We integrated tools to the app for streamlined UX flows and users stayed for longer. I also contributed to the mobile design systems and illustration systems.
We shipped all features within four months. In early 2020, ImmoScout24 went back to #1 on both app stores from the #2, and its retention climbed from 60% to 78%. The design systems also helped engineers to speed up the roll-out time by at least 16% on average.
